A group recently visited Citivision camp in Ulster, New York to help with some restoration of the camp facilities. In their own words:

The team consisted of Dave Freed, Brian McGuinness, Kurt Stahley, Dale Rittenhouse, Charlinda Hendricks, Rebecca Hoover, and Stephanie Delp. As a group, we fixed up one of the many dorm rooms at the camp; refurbishing the light fixtures, spackling and repairing the ceilings and walls, and painting (After Becca had the idea to paint Charlinda’s head, everyone enjoyed spending all day Saturday with matted hair and yellow faces when a paint war broke out).

Some highlights of the trip were getting to know the amazing staff at the camp, visiting Manhattan on Sunday morning, and spending late nights in the game room dethroning Dale Rittenhouse in every game imaginable (or at least trying to). In between our work during the day, we took a tour of the whole camp; piling into the back of a little blue pickup truck and holding on for dear life as Dave flew around the treacherous mountain curves. On our tour of ‘Hoop Heaven’ (a basketball camp for teens) we played a fierce game of three-on-three, Dave, Kurt and Becca took home the victory (thanks to Kurt’s mad athletic skills). Although Brian’s highlight of the week was the delicious food served at the dining hall, the highlight of Stephanie’s week was the good looking cook.

The weekend quickly came to an end. By the time we packed up to say goodbye, the dorm room we worked on had been repaired and transformed. We had made friends and memories. On the trip home we laughed and told stories from the weekend. As we shared dinner that evening at Cracker Barrel, each of us verbalized how glad we were that we participated in the trip; even though initially we may have had some reservations, it turned out to be an awesome experience.
